EITI in partnership with the Global Digital Compact and participating organizations both in the public and private sector, convened the virtual online consultation on Data Protection.

Data protection is about ensuring people can trust entities in both the public and private sector  to use personal data fairly and responsibly and in compliance with data protection laws. Key tenets of data protection include , protection of personal data, protection of individual privacy and security, conformance to digital data privacy regulation, prevention of misuse of public personal data, protection of data of the most vulnerable and children. data minimization, checks on unauthorized access of personal data, conformity to International human rights laws and working with governments in the formulation of legislative laws on data protection.

EITI will continue to contribute to the GDC on set digital topics and work collaboratively with the public, private and international organizations on projects that pertain to data protection
